Getting Healthy | Day Six

Okay, today I learned the following:

a)  I can not go all day without eating

b)  Starving myself in order to consume copious amounts of food at the end of the day is NOT a good idea.

c)  I must learn to eat more zero/low calorie food in order to keep my stamina going all day and then eat a sensible dinner

d)  Working out at night means I have excess energy and can't wind down and go to sleep

e)  Spending 4.25 hours with 3 crazy women will make you laugh so hard that you feel like you burned all those calories you consumed at dinner

I tried so hard today to eat light so I could go out to eat tonight at an off-the-grid restaurant where there is no way in hell, no matter how hard you try, that you can determine calories in the food you choose to consume.  I ate like crap all day and by the time 5 pm rolled around I was on the verge of a migraine because I hadn't eaten right and was starving plus dinner was still at the least 90 minutes away.  I wolfed down a yogurt and a few soy nuggets with tzatziki and a Diet Cherry Coke and felt a little better, enough to get dressed and head to dinner.

Dinner was awesome, it was authentic Italian and absolutely amazing.  I had a great time, a few glasses of wine and some wonderful pasta.  I can't even begin to think how many calories I consumed, but it was all well worth it.  Problem is, I don't know how to even track those calories on MyFitnessPal, but I am just going to let it go!

I came home and did do a 20 minute fat burn on the treadmill for a total of 116 calories, so I feel a little bit better, but I am wide awake on my couch now watching Law & Order: SVU.

Today was also day two of taking a multi-vitamin, I swear these things were made for horses!

Overall - good day!

Tomorrow's goal:  Start meal planning for future days so I can shop and plan better

Bissel Perfect Sweep Turbo ~ Review

Do you have any of these problems:

*  Spilled cereal
*  Spilled cat or dog food
*  Cat litter on the ground
*  Legos everywhere
*  Dirt in the hallway
*  Hair on the bathroom floor

If you do, then you are just like me and may or may not have a house full of children!

I had the chance to review the Bissel Perfect Sweep Turbo and LOVE it.  I have a teenager and we both have long hair.  I also have two cats and I love to cook, so this little machine just does it all for me.  I love how easy it is to empty and that it can go from the lenoleum in my kitchen to my carpet so easily.

Below are two pictures of the sweeper for you to look at.  It fits so easily in the corner of my kitchen and I only have to charge it every couple of days.

Bissell is offering a nice deal:  go to http://bissell.com/perfectsweep and enter code "perfectsweep" and take $5 off the purchase of your sweeper.

The uses of a rechargeable sweeper vs. a vacuum
The Perfect Sweep Turbo® Cordless Rechargeable Sweeper provides a convenient and easy way to pick up daily dirt and unexpected dry messes in between routine vacuuming. Since the rotating brush is battery powered, it can quickly sweep up debris large and small with little effort on your part. With a slim design, the Perfect Sweep Turbo® is perfect for leaving sitting out or in a nearby closet for quick pick-ups throughout the week. Since the sweeper also has edge brushes and a 60 minute cleaning time, you can keep up with dirt build-up along baseboards and in corners too.

Getting Healthy | Day Five

Source: google.com via Jody on Pinterest

As I sit here tonight and watch The Voice I think about my day and how well I did.

My morning started off poorly, but it shaped up better than I had thought it would.

A big shocker for me today was that Au Bon Pain has a Peach Iced Tea and that is us NOT as low in calorie content as I had thought it was.

I took a trip to Earth Fare and the West Side Market to get some items for the week, mostly some veggies and fruit, but I grabbed some salmon and scallops to put over brown rice and some asparagus.

I am already forecasting that tomorrow (day six) will be a challenge due to some amazing dinner plans with some equally amazing women and Thursday I am going to lunch with my mom at Big Boy (her choice, not mine) and for dinner taking a spin on my enchiladas and trying them with beef instead of chicken.

Friday will be good since it is Lent and I will be eating seafood ~ so yummy!

My weekend is going to be a challenge too, but I am up for it. I just need to keep walking, biking and doing Pilates and some arm training & all will be good, I am sure!

I am down a .5 pound after just 5 days, but my dilemma is that I don't have a scale at home, so I need to rely on the once a week that I go to water therapy to weigh in. I suppose that isn't a bad thing so I don't get too worked up, just apprehensive that's all.

It is almost 9:30 pm and I still have calories left, woo hoo!

Today was a doctor day. My stitches came out of my back (I'll save you that picture) and I had my cortisone shots in my hips. With all that said, I did 20 on the treadmill (on a fat burner cycle) and 10 on the bike. I looked at the elliptical and laughed! Maybe one day!

Tomorrow's goal: 20 minutes of Pilates

Advice from Somewhere

Okay, I gotta admit I am stealing this from somwhere that I read it and I don't know where, but it is so applicable in this day and age that I couldn't just let it sit there and not be shared with all my awesome friends!

Advice from Somewhere:

ONE ~ Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

TWO ~ Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

THREE ~ Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR ~ When you say, "I love you," mean it.

FIVE ~ When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.

SIX ~ Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN ~ Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT ~ Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

NINE ~ Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

TEN ~ In disagreements, fight fairly. Please No name calling.

ELEVEN ~ Don't judge people by their relatives.

TWELVE ~ Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN ~ When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"

FOURTEEN ~ Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

FIFTEEN ~ Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN  ~ When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

SEVENTEEN ~Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN ~ Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

NINETEEN ~ When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

TWENTY ~Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

TWENTY-ONE ~ Spend some time alone.

This came around anonamously, identified as from a "Chinese Tantra Totem" - One definition of a tantra being a statement of principle or religious practice and collections of such principles and practices. It's origins are probably from south Asia such as India and may have followed Hinduism and Buddhism and other related belief and practice systems into East Asia including China. One person who viewed this page responded that they are from the Dalai Lama, but didn't not say which one - which generation.May be. I haven't verified any origins for these sayings. I don't think most of them are unique to China or Asia. Certainly some have existed in western culture for a long time as well. (They are even older than me) Some are probably ancient. Some, such as the 'smile when answering the phone' are at least modern variations if not actually recent. But they sound good. If you live this way life will seem happy.
To the humor index.

Getting Healthy | Day Four

First of all my stomach and abs hurt ~ like really hurt. I can't figure out of it is from my abdominal work out two days ago or the bike yesterday, regardless they hurt, but in a good way.

I think that today was overall a decent day. My breakfast was two of the eggs in basket I made earlier in the week and lunch was grilled cheese and soup. I kind of splurged and had two Girl Scout cookies tonight and that put me over the top, but the intervals on the treadmill had me sweating and feeling good when I was done.

Not sure how tomorrow looks since I have doctor appointments in the morning, errands and my daughter at night, but hopefully I get something in there and can eat well.

Getting Healthy | Day Three

Well, today started off on a good note, but my dinner (if you could call it that) consisted of a Dove Chocolate party and some Skinny Girl Cosmos.

I managed to do 30 minutes on the bike today, eat a healthy breakfast and drink a lot of water, but when you ate invited to sample chocolate, it doesn't matter how much fruit and veggies you eat when they are dipped in chocolate and you wash them down with a chocolate martini and some cosmos.

I gotta say though today I really did start to feel like I worked my muscles, especially in my stomach. Not sure what tomorrow is going to consist of, but it has to be better than today and consist of a good nights sleep.

I did manage to make some kick ass enchiladas and pasta salad for the party and can't wait to try them out on some more friends down the road.

Tomorrow's goal: Eat within my caloric limits and drink a lot of water.

Eggs in a Basket | My Way

The last few days I have decided to make a major commitment to eating healthier and to start working out and to go along with that the next 40 days are part of Lent, so I am also trying to cut meat out of my Friday diet.

I had seen a recipe previously that was called Eggs in a Basket, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so I set off to do what I do best and make my own version!

Ingredients:

  • Eggs (I use 8 and scramble with water, salt and pepper, but feel free to prepare the scrambled goodness your own way)
  • 6 slices of bread either pulled apart into smaller pieces or cut into cubes (depends how neat you want to be)
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (I buy the low fat kind, but you can also use American or whatever suits your tastes)

Instructions:

I start with 8 eggs and add a few tablespoons of water

Scramble it all up together and add salt, pepper or your favorite seasonings
Spray muffin tin with cooking spray and then put bread cubes into each hole covering the bottom completely.
Add as much or as little cheese as you would like onto the top of the bread pieces.
Pour your scrambled egg mix over the top of the bread and cheese.
Place in 300 degree oven for 15 - 20 minutes until crispiness is reached
Either pop out and serve immediately or cool and freeze for a quick breakfast.

Getting Healthy | Day Two

You are looking at a Pilate's & Yoga virgin.  Up until today I have never once even watched someone do Pilate's or Yoga, let alone done it myself.  After visiting my Endocrinologist this week she suggested that I start alternating between cardio, strength and stretching and maybe it would help me lose some more weight along with a healthier diet.

I woke up this morning and had a meeting at 9:30 am, so I threw on sweats and headed to the television set, loaded up Netflix and found 10 Minute Pilate's & 10 Minute Yoga.  They are a series of 5 - 10 minute workouts that you can do all or some.  I opted for the abdominal workout for Pilate's and the beginner workout for Yoga.

Those were a very strenuous 20 minutes let me tell you!  I didn't think that I would sweat doing either of these two activities, but guess what - I did.  Another thing is that I found out I am NOT as flexible as I thought I was.  I need a lot of work to be able to do the downward dog properly and manage to touch the floor with my hands and put my legs behind my head.

Well, I did it, I did 20 minutes of stretching and it felt pretty good...not great, but good.

Breakfast was these yummy bread, egg and cheese puffs (recipe will go up tomorrow), some raspberries and coffee (of course).  I managed to finagle my dad into lunch and we headed to Bob Evans for a very healthy lunch (minus the ONE buttermilk biscuit) and iced tea.  Dinner hasn't been planned yet, but I know that I have 580 calories left to eat and we are heading to Panera while my daughter goes to her dance at school, so I am sure that I can find something that doesn't include meat (since it is Friday) and is around 580 calories or less!

One more day down, 38 to go!

Tomorrow's Goal ~ to eat my calories, not drink them :-)

(I am going to a Dove Chocolate Party and I am pretty sure that will include alcohol and chocolate - oy vey!)
